Thanks for coming back! We have quickly reviewed in part 1 of this series, why do we need Data Governance and in my part 2, how to start cataloging the data within the enterprise.

In this part, we will talk about why we need to connect, visualize, and assess the usage and impact of data that is flowing through the enterprise. We will also briefly touch upon ‘the how’ but that is probably a 201 level discussion.

Cataloging and Supply chain allow us to answer questions like, who produces and consumes data about the customer or product, or who all are using the transactions or order data within the enterprise and why?

The data supply chain should also allow us to understand who is the source, owner, and modifiers of a particular domain we discussed in our part 1.

So, what are the best practices on how to do this? You might also hear the word “lineage” being used by your governance friends.
